• Easy to Reach: The island's central location in the Mediterranean also makes it easy to reach by plane as Malta is less than a 3-hour flight away from most major European airports. From June 2026, Delta airlines will also be operating a new flight from New York (JFK) to Malta.

What's new in 2026?
2026 brings a wave of exciting new experiences for visitors to the Maltese Islands. The upcoming Hard Rock Hotel, alongside the newly refurbished Riviera Hotel, the Verdala Wellness Hotel by AX Privilege and Me by Meliá add fresh energy to Malta’s growing luxury hospitality scene. At the same time, our innovative team continues to develop new, authentic experiences that go beyond the expected - giving guests a deeper connection to the destination and truly unforgettable moments, both on and off the itinerary.
AX Hotels is a household name in Malta that has roots extending back to the 1980s when the Xuereb family took on their first venture into the hospitality industry. AX Hotels, within the now conglomerate. The AX Hotels maxim is “eight different journeys, one purpose” – a promise that is core to our strategy of building and designing hotels that target different demographics of travellers while delivering on a shared standard of excellence. AX Hotels earmarked prime locations around Malta over the years for its distinct hotels, namely Valletta, Sliema and Qawra, all providing a unique set of experiences for its guests. Malta’s capital city of Valletta is home to the Xuereb masterplan which saw the restoring of heritage houses into a 5-star luxury hotel Rosselli AX Privilege as part of the AX Privilege Collection and the boutique hotel, AX The Saint John. The AX properties in Sliema offer stays in Malta’s central urban and commercial hub, providing a range of experiences for every traveller at our 5-star AX The Palace, 4-star AX The Victoria Hotel and the historic 200-year-old AX Palazzo Capua. Qawra, however, holds a special place in the Xuereb family’s heart being the location that launched the first of the AX Hotels establishments, AX Sunny Coast Resort & Spa in 1983, giving a taste of Maltese life by the sea. Qawra is also home to the former AX Seashells Resort at Suncrest, the first hotel of its kind back then, which has been rebranded to AX ODYCY after undergoing a full redevelopment of the premises, sister restaurants and the promenade it occupies. Works are expected to be completed in 2023, which will be then followed by a further redevelopment of Sunny Coast. 2024 will also be a pivotal year and will see a Rabat icon reborn: AX Verdala, making it the first inland hotel forming part of AX Hotels.
