Bella Center Copenhagen Celebrates 50 Years of Hosting the World

2025 marks a major milestone for Bella Center Copenhagen, as Denmark’s largest conference and exhibition venue celebrates its 50th anniversary. Since opening its doors in 1975, Bella Center has grown into one of Northern Europe’s most significant international event destinations — welcoming world leaders, global brands, cultural icons, and millions of delegates through its halls.

Half a century on, the venue continues to shape the future of the global meetings and events industry — with an expanded convention footprint, a thriving neighborhood, and a deep commitment to sustainability and innovation.

From landmark moments to lasting legacy

Over the past five decades, Bella Center has played host to some of the most memorable and high-profile events in Denmark’s history. These include:

• COP15 – the landmark UN Climate Change Conference in 2009, which brought 33,000 delegates and global media attention to Copenhagen.
• EU Presidency Summits, NATO events, and high-level political forums that placed Bella Center at the heart of international diplomacy.
• Major international exhibitions and trade shows, such as CIFF (Copenhagen International Fashion Fair).
• World congresses across life sciences, tech, sustainability, and education — with delegates from more than 100 countries and +1000 delegates.

Alongside global-scale events, Bella Center has also been a home for local and regional experiences — from design fairs and cultural expos to graduation ceremonies and career festivals. Its flexible layout and 121,800 sqm capacity make it a venue where anything is possible.

A district transformed

The story of Bella Center is closely tied to the transformation of Ørestad, the once-undeveloped area of Copenhagen that now thrives as a dynamic urban district. Over the past two decades, the area around the center has evolved into a vibrant hub for business, education, and architecture.

Today, Bella Center is surrounded by modern hotels, residential buildings, metro access, green spaces, and attractions like the Royal Arena and Fields. The venue helped anchor this development and continues to serve as a gateway between the city and the international event community.

Expanding for the Future

Marking its 50th anniversary, Bella Center is also celebrating its most recent expansion: Bella Arena, which opened in 2021. With this addition, the venue now offers one of Scandinavia’s most flexible and dynamic convention spaces-  capable of hosting up to 30,000 people across conference rooms, halls, and breakout spaces.

This expansion also aligns with Bellagroup’s ESG strategy. Bella Arena is certified to DGNB Gold standards, and Bella Center now supports climate reporting for events, ISO-certified operations, and a comprehensive focus on accessibility and inclusion.
