Ovation Scandinavia DMC is Embracing Sustainability in the Events Industry
The events industry is increasingly recognizing the environmental challenges posed by single-use items both for consumption and decoration. Often produced for convenience and a WOW-effect, these items contribute significantly to waste and pollution. The production and disposal of these items consume vast amounts of resources and energy, leading to a larger carbon footprint and exacerbating climate change.
At our recent event in Copenhagen, sustainability was at the heart of every decision we made. Along with our partners, we took measures to minimize single-use items, opting for reusable options wherever possible and ensuring proper disposal and recycling of necessary disposables.
We're thrilled to share the many ways we incorporated eco-friendly practices and the crucial role our partners played in achieving our sustainability goals.
Flowers: All live flowers were generously donated to the RED CROSS summer party, bringing joy to their volunteers. Olive trees were rented and will grace other events, while artificial trees and plants are headed back to storage for future use. Even our huge paper flowers will find new life in upcoming events.
Furniture, Bars, and Decoration Elements: Most of our furniture and decor were rentals, ensuring they return to storage and are reused at other events. We utilized stools from Small Revolution, crafted from 100% recycled Danish household plastic, highlighting our commitment to sustainable choices.
Carpets: Our indoor carpets are being returned to the carpet company to be transformed into new carpets, showcasing an excellent example of circular economy in action. Although our outdoor carpet couldn't follow the same path due to weather and wear, it has been responsibly placed in a recycling container for small combustibles at TAP1.
Generic materials and congress items: Along with our client, we chose to produce generic materials (without year or specific event markers). The items which were not used were shipped to the next event to reuse.
Our partners were essential to making all of this possible. Their dedication to sustainability helped us minimize our environmental impact and set a standard for future events. Together, we're proving that with creativity and collaboration, the events industry can be both spectacular and sustainable.
Let's continue to pave the way for greener, more responsible events. 🌿✨
