Finnish wooden design hotel Solo Sokos Hotel Pier 4 opened its doors at the end of August 2024. Offering an upper upscale hotel experience, it combines sustainable luxury and striking architecture in the seashore of Helsinki.
In a remarkable fusion of Finnish craftsmanship and natural splendor, the wooden design hotel Solo Sokos Hotel Pier 4 will redefine luxury accommodation in Helsinki. Opened at the end of August 2024, this exquisite establishment is nestled at the scenic and historic Katajanokka area, offering guests an immersive experience by the sea and just 400 meters from Helsinki Market Square and South Harbour. Next to the hotel is Helsinki’s famous Allas Sea Pool with saunas, vibrant restaurants, and Helsinki Cathedral within a walking distance.
Solo Sokos Hotel Pier 4 is an upper-upscale hotel that offers sustainable luxury, Finnish design, and breathtaking sea views from full-length windows. The interior design celebrates wooden materials and natural light. The hotel features 164 elegant rooms with earthy tones and carefully selected and bespoke elements from Finnish designers, with over 40 rooms and suites offering unobstructed views to the Baltic Sea and the shores of Helsinki.
Drawing inspiration from the forest, the beautiful building is designed by famous Finnish architect group Anttinen Oiva Arkkitehdit. As a result of a collaboration between Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Company and renewable materials company Stora Enso and made entirely from Finnish and Swedish timber, it uses pioneering architectural methods with traditional and sustainable materials and is built with the next 100 years in mind. The building acts as carbon storage equal to average annual emissions of 3,500 passenger cars in Finland and is also made to withstand possibly rising sea levels. The building will, in addition to a hotel, house the new head office of Stora Enso, conference facilities, seaside café and a rooftop terrace with views over the Helsinki Marketplace and South Harbour.
The hotel restaurant Harbore is led by Sauli Kemppainen, a Finnish chef with passion for simplicity and pure taste. He has previously been awarded a Michelin star. Each dish at Harbore consists of only two main ingredients prepared in various ways, such as reindeer and onion, with Finnish and Nordic produce accounting for up to 85 percent of all ingredients used. All food served at the hotel is prepared in one kitchen with the same ambition, extending from the Harbore restaurant to include an indulgent breakfast, bespoke catering for meetings and events, a seaside café, a rooftop terrace, and room service, all underscoring the theme of unadulterated flavors and local produce.
The ambitious goal is to create Finland's most environmentally responsible hotel, taken into consideration throughout planning and operations. A LEED Platinum environmental certificate will be applied for the building aiming for carbon neutrality and using energy solely from renewable sources. Hotel rooftop features a beautiful nature trail and inner yard a mini forest. Finnish sustainable lifestyle brand Metsä/Skogen has curated an immersive nature experience to the hotel including natural soundscapes, scented pinecones at the reception and a unique holistic wellness space.
