Being situated in Swedish Lapland, Luleå can offer a range of natural and cultural experiences with an arctic touch. As we are situated in arctic costal region the frozen sea works as a playground for a range of activities.
Dinner on ice
Welcome to a candle light dinner experience with a difference! This 3 course dinner is enjoyed by the crackling fire in the large Teepee tent, on a table with a white tablecloth, candelabra and warm plates. You are sitting on reindeer pelts and are served good wines, first and main course and desert. There is also that bench closer to the fire, where you can sit as the coffee is served. The dinner is situated on the frozen sea, with the sea-ice and snow as the restaurant-floor and the stars and possibly the Aurora dancing over the sky. Exhilarate your senses with a unique, heart- warming experience on the frozen sea in Swedish Lapland. Evening activity/flexible solution for groups from 25 to 350 ppl.
Icebreaker
The Arctic Explorer Icebreaker ship sets sail from Kalix east from Luleå. This coastal area of Northern Sweden is extremely beautiful in the winter time with crispy white snow, beautiful white pine tree forests and miles of frozen sea. The Icebreaker ship tour is a fun experience and a good opportunity for some photographs.
The Ice breaking ship carves its way through thick ice and you’ll hear the crushing of ice against the ship’s hull. This is the Baltic sea, frozen in winter and most probably frozen from northern Sweden over to northern Finland. Along the way, the Polar Explorer stops to allow it’s passengers the opportunity to walk in the ice or even for people to experience some ice swimming!
The icebreaker can be charterd for groups up to 75 pax. 2-3 hr activity.
World heritage of gammelstad
Just outside Luleå you will find Gammelstad Church Town, one of Sweden’s World Heritage Sites on UNESCO’s list of places worth preserving. Gammelstad actually used to be Luleå’s town centre up until the 17th century. Then, land uplift made the Gammelstad harbour too shallow, which meant that in 1649 the town had to be moved closer to the coast. Guided tours for groups available year around. 2-3 hr activity.
Pack Ice Nature Tour – 4 hours by snowmobile with lunch
With nature guides you will spend a fantastic four hours exploring the islands of the Luleå archipelago by snowmobile on the frozen sea. Across the frozen sea and islands you will enjoy learning about our unique nature, the local history and our arctic way of life. In particular the group will be searching for small fishing villages, frozen in time in the winter, a variety of local wildlife and the unique ice formations that appear on the edges of the islands. Note this tour is available from early January through to early April. Suitable for groups up to 40 pax.
