In western Leipzig, the artificial Karl-Heine-Canal runs through the city, connecting the Lindenau harbour with the White Elster River along a 3.3 kilometre stretch of water. During the warmer season, the waterway is navigable by small boats. During an excursion along the canal, you can see not only the total of 15 bridges crossing the canal, but also former industrial architecture with artistic façades.
By the way: the lakes, canals and rivers in Leipzig are - no joke - crossed by more bridges than in Venice.
