The Tourist Destination of FrankfurtRhineMain
Destination FrankfurtRhineMain consists of the cities of Frankfurt, Offenbach, Hanau, Darmstadt and Aschaffenburg as well as the regional districts of Offenbach, Groß-Gerau, Wetterau and Main-Taunus-Kreis.
The Wetterau District: The Middle Ages are particularly well represented here, the district being home to countless palaces and castles, some in ruins, others beautifully preserved. We offer guided hikes and eBike tours, suggestions for day trips, e.g., to the fabled old town of Büdingen or the “World of the Celts at the Glauberg” exhibition.
The District of Offenbach incl. Seligenstadt: The mediaeval old town of Seligenstadt document over 1,900 years of urban history. The former Benedictine monastery with its abbey, herb garden and fully restored mill attracts all visitors. Nearby, the river promenade bustles with activity while serving as a landing stage for river cruise ships bringing visitors for a memorable daytime excursion.
The City of Offenbach am Main includes the exhibitions of the German Leather Museum, the House of City History and the Klingspor Museum of International Book Art. A visit to the Offenbach Weather Park, will show you the meteorological interplay of sun, wind and clouds.
The City of Darmstadt: Darmstadt combines intellectual thought and scientific research and has retained the charm of a one-time royal residence while at the same time being a bustling cultural centre. Darmstadt tips include a guided tour titled “Matilda Heights Darmstadt – UNESCO World Heritage Site”.
The City of Hanau: The 41th Brothers Grimm Festival is currently scheduled to take place at the amphitheatre of Castle Philippsruhe from 9th May to 27st July 2025. Hanau pays tribute to the famous German linguists and fairy-tale creators, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm.
The Regional District of Groß-Gerau: The two largest nature reserves of the State of Hesse – Kühkopf-Knoblochsaue and Mönchbruch – are both situated here. Well-developed hiking and cycling trails make the areas easily accessible to nature-lovers. The Opel Villas in Rüsselsheim present themselves as a magnificent cultural centre featuring works of classical modernity.
Aschaffenburg: Whether in spring a visit to the famous magnolia blossom, in summer to the unique Pompejanum, in autumn to Bavaria‘s oldest English land-scape park, or in winter to see art by Cranach, Grünewald, Kirchner & Schad: Aschaffenburg‘s different ”highlights“ are all within walking distance of the ICE main train station.
Main-Taunus-Kreis: offers guests an impressive variety: it ranges from the towering company headquarters in Eschborn to the spa facilities in Bad Soden, fruit growing in Kriftel and wooded Taunus valleys with the medieval Eppstein Castle to the banks of the Main and the vineyards of Hochheim and Flörsheim with their world-renowned Rheingau-Riesling.
